Structure
Each I WRITE SONGS episode will focus on one songwriter, producer or production team and the hit song or songs that changed their lives forever. Using the viral song as a thread, we witness honest and vulnerable narratives about the creator and their journey to making that hit song. We aim to capture their personal experiences, creative processes, struggles and successes before, during and after these songs reached the masses. Every story is different as the songs are unique, and each episode is crafted to visually and sonically to match the artist’s feel. At the end, this hit maker reveals and shares a never before heard song with the viewer and together we witness the feeling of the worlds next hit being unleashed to the masses.
ACT 1 | Introduction to the hit song or songs through a success montage: footage of sold out stadiums, screaming fans, commercials or movies that feature the song, restaurants, malls and any other public place the song was in rotation. Footage of the song climbing the billboard charts, examples of every different mundane situation this song appeared in. Making a real effort to demonstrate the vastness of placement and impact these songs have.

With a screeching halt to the madness, we’ll hear a lone voiceover from the producer or songwriter defining their feelings about the song. i.e. "I was crying the entire time I wrote the song" or "Before I changed the first line, I honestly hated the song."

ACT 2 | We meet our subject in their eco system of creativity and see how these artists are living their present lives while intercutting with the story of how the hit song was born. We start to learn about our subject’s past; where they grew up, how they started in music, who their influences are. We uncover the pain and struggle our subject faced leading up to creating the song that changed their life. We introduce other supporting people such as parents, spouses, managers, record company executives and even the recording artist themselves to talk about their involvement in the evolution of the song. Shots in the studio will show how the hit song was created as well as an unreleased song or project they really connect to. We highlight these stories and processes in real time with VFX unique to the artists feel.
ACT 3 | Our subject reflects on their accomplishments and the gratitude they have. They talk about how the song changed their life. Are they better off from it? How has having a huge celebrity’s name attached changed their reputation? We’ll see a snippet about where the artist is headed next and the complicated gratitude that comes along with being someone who creates music for a living. We end with the artist sharing one of the songs we witnessed them create during the episode implying to the audience that this may be the next big hit.

* Our goal at the end of each season is to have a a playlist full of of amazing music for fans to enjoy.
I Write Songs is the Chef’s Table of music but you get to eat the dish at the end.

Visual Approach
The initial idea for the series is to keep it modern and clean while having surrealistic elements without losing the intimacy of our subjects and their stories.
We aim to use surrealistic VFX to bring each creative process to life visually as the songwriters and producers build sonically.

We’re fully tapping into the unique creative essence of our subjects in each episode. Each episode will differ in feel depending on the subject, location and type of music they create. We plan to thread the series with an original score and a unique approach to the VFX to show the internalized process of each creator.

Throughout the series we will discover what makes these artists tick, what makes them creative and ultimately what inspires them. The series will be inspirational and raw while remaining beautifully shot and imaginative.

sound design
The score will be all original, sonically intriguing and feel very custom to the series. To further reflect the uniqueness of the different writers and producers it's important for everything about the show to feel like it's one of a kind.
